Academic and Professional Resources

We know that being the first in your family to navigate college can be a daunting thought. Some first generation students may feel that they can easily assimilate into the campus culture and community and that’s awesome; however, some may feel lost and confused with an environment that seems to have a number of unspoken rules and cultural norms.

Staff & Faculty Here to Help You

All of our university members are here to help you but below are a couple individuals that specialize in helping first generation students. Some of them are first generation themselves and know exactly how you feel. Some of them are not first generation but all of them are passionate about helping you succeed!

Dr. Shane Pruitt- Director of Student Engagement and Leadership

“Knowing where to find answers as you start your college experience can be intimidating, but there are many people on campus who want to help! I am proud to say that I earned my family’s first college degree after growing up on a farm in rural Oklahoma. To be successful, I felt like I had to work harder than everyone else to get the right information. If you feel the same way, contact me at any time for advice!”
