Emergency Assistance

This initiative is designed to assist students facing unforeseen emergencies that impact their ability to thrive at the University. Each student may request up to $500 per academic year. Students will be granted access to apply until the funds are depleted.

The fund covers a variety of urgent needs, including:

  • Electronics repairs
  • Housing, utilities, food, and groceries
  • Medical expenses (e.g., prescriptions, copays)
  • Emergency travel
  • Essential personal items and academic supplies
  • Uninsured losses

Certain expenses, such as non-essential items or luxury purchases, are not covered.

Eligibility Criteria
To apply, students must:

  • Be currently enrolled at Oglethorpe University.
  • Have a financial need due to an unforeseen emergency.
  • Not have exceeded the $500 annual limit.
  • Provide receipts or a detailed summary of expenses.

How to Apply
Complete the Student Emergency Fund Application. Be prepared to share details about the emergency, itemized expenses, and other resources you’ve explored.

Review and Approval
Applications are confidential and reviewed by a committee within seven business days. Decisions are based on eligibility and allowable expenses. Approved funds are distributed by the Office of Equity and Care.
